WATCH: Ilya Sorokin Makes Save of the Year Against New York Rangers

New York Islanders, Ilya Sorokin

We’ve seen some fantastic saves this season as many goaltenders have gone above and beyond for their team. But nothing compares to the save that New York Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin made against the New York Rangers in the first period on Thursday night.

Ilya Sorokin did not just make the “Save of the Year”. He made one of the greatest saves you will see.

After two Islanders, Anders Lee and Brock Nelson, collided at the New York Rangers blue line, the New York Rangers had numbers going the other way. Because of the collision, the Rangers had a two-man advantage entering the Islanders zone and their passing created a wide-open net for the elite Artemi Panarin.

The net was in fact wide-open…until it wasn’t.

And now for the slow-motion replay.

New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin has 16 goals on the season, a guy that knows how to put the puck in the net. Did he hit his target, no…but, and I could be wrong, I don’t think he believed Sorokin had a chance to come close to making the save there.

Ilya Sorokin has bailed the New York Islanders out countless times this season. But this save was on another level and one that will be on replay on your local sports channels for quite some time.
