Pittsburgh Hockey Now: NHL coaches are hired to be fired. Like clockwork, every three years, teams change coaches. Really good ones might get four years before messages get stale, players tune out, and the situation requires a new voice. Yet, on Tuesday, with a new three-year extension, the Pittsburgh Penguins committed to head coach Mike Sullivan through 2026-27, which will be his 12th year. Pittsburgh Penguins.

Philly Hockey Now: Left winger Joel Farabee, one of the most important players in the Philadelphia Flyers’ lineup, continues to make strides following neck surgery in mid-June. Farabee took part in an informal intrasquad scrimmage at the Flyers’ practice facility Tuesday in Voorhees. And though he wasn’t available afterward to discuss his health, teammate Scott Laughton sounded impressed. Philadelphia Flyers.

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins haven’t decided on any big-name NHL training camp invites with the preseason still weeks away, but they are rounding out their camp roster. On Wednesday, Boston invited farmhand right wing/center Keltie Jeri-Leon to Boston Bruins training camp on a tryout basis after he played with the Maine Mariners and Providence Bruins for stints last season, per our friends at Cap Friendly. Washington Hockey Now: Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is not only an NHL icon as the greatest goal scorer of all time, but he is arguably much bigger back home in Russia. So big, in fact, that some coaches are criticizing the KHL for not trying to get him or other stars like Evgeni Malkin to play in Russia. Washington Capitals.

Florida Hockey Now: While the Florida Panthers have not confirmed as of yet, the start of training camp should be somewhere around Sept. 22. The Washington Capitals announced that their rookie camp will begin on Sept. 15 and veterans will return to training camp the following week. Florida Panthers.

Montreal Hockey Now: In a recent interview, former Montreal Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme didn’t give any credit to his replacement Martin St. Louis for Cole Caufield’s turnaround. He instead credited the rebuild mentality the Canadiens went into after his firing as the reason Caufield snapped out of his prolonged slump he suffered through under Ducharme’s coaching.
