New Information on New York Islanders Fisherman Reverse Retro Jersey

Two months ago we at NYI Hockey Now reported that the New York Islanders 2022-23 Reverse Retro jersey would encompass the famous, infamous Fisherman logo and style and that the color would be Navy Blue.

Then a few weeks ago, Fanatics leaked what people believed to have been the logos for all the 2022-23 Reverse Retro jerseys on their website as they showed off their new NHL apparel for the upcoming season.

NYI Hockey Now has now learned more information about the jersey’s details.

The 2022-23 Reverse Retro Jersey is navy blue and will indeed encompass The Fisherman jersey style.

If you thought this jersey would be as “outgoing” and “flashy” as the originals, you thought wrong.

Outside of the Fisherman logo and the wave, there’s not much going on. New York Islanders fans of the Fisherman jersey will be ecstatic with the logo being used and some other features from the original.

But even the New York Islanders fans that were not big on The Fisherman style should be able to take a deep breath for a few reasons.

To reiterate, it is not a replica, and it is a much “cleaner” looking jersey, if you will. Also, the team that will be donning the 2022-23 Reverse Retro jersey is a bit stronger than the team that donned them from 1995-1997.

Before we share some more details, here is a picture of the 1995-1997 Fisherman jersey concept per the NHL Uniform Database, so you can get a visual representation of the similarities and differences as the story progresses.

Like the originals, the 2022-23 New York Islanders Reverse Retro jersey will have waves at the bottom, which will be orange and white. But underneath the waves will not be the color teal. The only teal part of the 2022-23 Reverse Retro will be at the bottom part of the crest, like in the original.

Unlike in the original Fisherman pieces, the 2022-23 Reverse Retro will not contain the Lighthouse shoulder patches, with no shoulder patches at all.

Also, a change is being made to the Fisherman logo itself.

In the original, the Fisherman on the crest has an orange face with a grey beard. The Fanatics leak showcased a Fisherman with a blue face and a grey beard.

But on the 2022-23 Reverse Retro Fisherman-inspired sweaters, the Fisherman’s face will be…drumroll please…grey.

Yep, grey.

Although there has not been an official announcement on how many times the New York Islanders will be wearing their Reverse Retro uniform in 2022-23, the belief is that they will be worn at least seven times throughout the 2022-23 regular season.
