After being shut out by New Jersey on Thursday, the New York Islanders have a few days off before a back-to-back in Florida against the Lightning Monday and the Panthers Tuesday. In an interview with Spittin’ Chiclets, former Islander, Matt Moulson, talks about the night he was traded to Buffalo.

That Islanders story and more in today’s daily links!

When the New York Islanders traded Matt Moulson in 2013, the deal sent shockwaves around Islanders and their fans. Moulson had been a fan favorite during his tenure on Long Island and had three 30 goal seasons before he was dealt to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Thomas Vanek. Moulson opened up about the night he had been traded during an interview on Spittin’ Chiclets eight years after it happened. (NYI Hockey Now)

The Boston Bruins’ defense has been underwhelming through the first 11 games of their season. After another game with defensive issues on Thursday, in a 5-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, head coach Bruce Cassidy watched his team struggle mightily in the third period. Good teams are finding ways to exploit the defense and Cassidy is taking the blame for their struggles. Here is what he had to say. (Boston Hockey Now)

With the Pittsburgh Penguins across the Canadien border, Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwedel will not be able to play in their game Saturday against the Ottawa Senators as they must quarantine. The Penguins also sent starting goalie Tristan Jarry ahead to Washington for Sunday’s game. To complete the roster, the Penguins recalled both defenseman Juuso Riikola and goalie Louis Domingue on an emergency basis. (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

Let’s be fair. The Detroit Red Wings are not getting enough respect this season. Yeah, they may only be 7-6-2, but from where they were last season, this season has been a godsend. But just how good are the Red Wings and are they deemed a threat to the other teams in the NHL? Based on the decisions coaches have made against them, we don’t think so. (Detroit Hockey Now)

The Toronto Maple Leafs picked up a big win against a Canadian rival as they defeated the Calgary Flames in overtime by a score of 2-1. Auston Matthews had the game-winning dagger for his eighth career overtime goal. The game saw great goaltending from both sides and some goals. William Nylander stayed hot as the core four for the Maple Leafs have truly carried the offense this season. (Toronto Hockey Now)

Jack Eichel wish came true as he finally got the disk replacement surgery that he had been waiting for. He is expected to make a full recovery according to a release by the team. Eichel is the first player to have undergone this surgery. (Vegas Hockey Now)

A group of 15-20 long-time local and out-of-state collectors will have a game-worn jersey display this Saturday prior to the Avalanche-Sharks game at Ball Arena. The expo is free to attend to the public and especially all hockey fans arriving early for the Avs game. Here are the details. (Colorado Hockey Now)

On Friday, seven San Jose Sharks players of COVID-19 were taken off COVID-19 protocol, as well as head coach Bob Boughner and others that work behind the bench. Seven forwards were sent back to the AHL. (San Jose Sharks)

After a 7-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks need to wake up. They need to regroup and get ready for a big weekend as they head to Vegas to face the Golden Knights. It will be a test of their character, as it was clear against a tough opponent, some players did not give 100-percent. (Vancouver Hockey Now)

David Vladar put on a clinic between the pipes in the Calgary Flames overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He made 30 saves in the contest, stoning Auston Matthews on the breakaway in overtime before ultimately giving one up to him later on in the overtime frame. Oliver Kylington scored a beautiful goal, as he continues to impress early on. (Calgary Hockey Now)

Alex Ovechkin hit another milestone Friday night as he netted career goal no. 742. He passes Brett Hull and now holds sole possession of fourth place all-time in goals. (NHL)

Despite a Hall of Fame career for Jarome Iginla, who spent the majority of his career a captain of the Calgary Flames, it was not always smooth sailing. After his third NHL season, doubt started to creep in. After an injury-riddled sophomore season, a slow start to the third year had him thinking that he was going to be an average player and he was okay with that. But average, he would not be. (NHL)

The Buffalo Sabres saw their five-game losing streak come to an end on Friday as they defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-2. Dylan Cozens recorded his first-career multi-goal game. What was more impressive is that he was matched up all night with Connor McDavid. (NHL)

The Philadelphia Flyers rallied to beat the Carolina Hurricanes Friday night. A goal by Zack MacEwen with a little over nine minutes in the third period was the eventual game-winner as the Flyers were able to weather the storm. Philadelphia netminder Carter Hart continued to play well, as he stopped 39 0f 40. (TSN.ca)
