Fantucchio’s Focus: Injuries Piling Up For Sens; Hurricanes Welcome Back Svechnikov
Good morning; my name is Andrew Fantucchio. It’s Saturday, October 30, and here’s what I’m focused on around the NHL today.
Islanders & Senators Talk Brannstrom Hit:
The game between the New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators on Thursday came to a screeching halt when Ottawa defenseman Erik Brannstrom had to be taken out on a stretcher. Players from both the Islanders and Senators talked about the scary scene at UBS Arena.
Thankfully, Brannstrom was released from the hospital here on Long Island yesterday. However, he’s just one player listed on a quickly growing injury list for the Ottawa Senators.
Chabot Added To Ottawa’s Growing Injury List:
With defensemen in Brannstrom and Artem Zub already out of commission, the Senators have lost another member of their blue line as Thomas Chabot will be sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks with a fractured hand. Chabot apparently suffered the injury while blocking a shot against the Islanders.
Teravainen Scores Hat-Trick; Svechnikov Returns For Carolina:
Andrei Svechnikov made his long-awaited season debut last night, and his Carolina Hurricanes teammates welcomed him back in the best way possible. Goalie Antti Raanta stopped 20 shots in the shutout victory, while Teuvo Teravainen took care of the offense by scoring a hat-trick.

More From National Hockey Now:
New Jersey: Nico Hischier took a hit to the head and left Friday night’s game early. How long will the New Jersey Devils‘ captain be out for?
Philadelphia: Nobody saw the Philadelphia Flyers starting the year so well. But even more surprising, it’s their defense leading the way.
Pittsburgh: The Pittsburgh Penguins had their best outing of the season last time out as new members of the team showed their value.
Washington: Are the Washington Capitals starting to figure things out?
Boston: Jakob Lauko shows his wounds after taking a skate blade directly to his face a few nights ago.
Detroit: It’s time for the Detroit Red Wings to show what they’re made of as they face their first bit of adversity this year.
Florida: Sam Bennet returned from injury but had to leave his first back practice early. Did the Florida Panthers rush him back?
Montreal: It’s never too early to start talking trades. Expect the Montreal Canadiens to be busy come deadline season.
Chicago: Things are looking good for the Chicago Blackhawks so far, and head coach Luke Richardson deserves much of the credit.
San Jose: A brutal stretch for the San Jose Sharks continued as they lost their eighth game to open the season in their second straight shutout.
Vegas: The longest winning streak ever by a defending Stanley Cup champion to start a season came to an end with the Vegas Golden Knights’ overtime loss.
