Good morning, my name is Andrew Fantucchio. It’s Thursday, October 25, and here’s what I’m focused on around the NHL today.

Brett Pesce Undergoes Procedure:

The Carolina Hurricanes will be without a huge piece of their vaunted defense corps as Brett Pesce is expected to miss the next 2-4 weeks after undergoing an operation to repair a lower-body injury on Wednesday.

Islanders Losing Streak:

It hasn’t been the best of starts to the regular season for the New York Islanders, who are in the midst of their first losing streak of the year. As is usually the case, this losing streak isn’t the result of just one issue but multiple that are piling on top of one another.

Capitals Crash Devils’ Party:

The Washington Capitals picked up a much-needed victory over the New Jersey Devils, who failed to break out of some bad habits.

Yesterday’s Scoreboard:

Capitals: 6, Devils: 4

Today’s Schedule:

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Montreal Canadiens, 7 p.m.

More From National Hockey Now:

Philadelphia: The Philadelphia Flyers had the defending Stanley Cup champions on the ropes but couldn’t finish the job.

Pittsburgh: Like the Islanders, the Pittsburgh Penguins are also enduring their power-play struggles.

Boston: The Boston Bruins have taken a slow, physical approach to their fast start this season.

Florida: Anthony Duclair revisited the site of his career’s most important moments in his first game back in Sunrise.

Montreal: Despite so much that has already gone wrong for the Montreal Canadiens so far, there are still improvements in key areas.

Chicago: It’s not just Connor Bedard. The youth of the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks is stepping up.

Colorado: Bo Byram’s goal late in the second period against the Islanders was exactly what the Colorado Avalanche have been waiting for.

San Jose: Early diagnoses don’t look promising for San Jose Sharks forward Alexander Barbanov.
