NHL Today: Islanders Find Direction In Desert; All-Stars Announced

Good morning, my name is Andrew Fantucchio. It’s Friday, January 5, and here’s what’s happening around the NHL today.
Islanders News:
Coyotes: After putting together a solid effort but still losing in overtime on Tuesday, the New York Islanders needed not only a win but one that reassured their direction. The Islanders got exactly that on Thursday, beating the Arizona Coyotes.
Barzal Named An All-Star: Mathew Barzal picked up his 400th point in the win over Arizona, but his big night didn’t start there. Barzal was named an NHL All-Star for the third time in his career.

More From National Hockey Now:
New Jersey: The NHL’s goalie market is thin, but the demand for netminders is as high as ever.
Boston: Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery says he’ll stick with what’s worked and rotate his goalie tandem.
Detroit: If the Detroit Red Wings want to see themselves in the playoffs, they’ll need five players to get their acts together.
San Jose: Logan Couture is expected to dress for the San Jose Sharks for the first time this season after a prolonged absence.
