The New York Islanders hit the ice on Thursday for the first day of training camp. It’s the start of a big season for New York, as it’s another chance to prove people wrong after a lackluster 2021-22 season.



Here are the New York Islanders and NHL stories to know for today.

Philly Hockey Now: On the eve of training camp, the Philadelphia Flyers announced some changes to their hockey-operations department Wednesday. They hired Tommy Alva as their head trainer, Jeff Taylor as physical therapist/rehab coordinator, and Gavin McClelland as data engineer, according to general manager Chuck Fletcher. Montreal Hockey Now: As the Montreal Canadiens prepare to open their main training camp, one of the biggest questions surrounding the roster is the current form of Brendan Gallagher. There’s no avoiding it, Gallagher, like the majority of the team, struggled last season. Montreal Canadiens.

Colorado Hockey Now: Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar believes that he has three options for the second-line center with the addition of Evan Rodrigues. He said they “will take a good long hard look at (Alex) Newhook and (Mikko) Rantanen as an option. Colorado Avalanche.

Vegas Hockey Now: Nicolas Hague is the Golden Knight’s only remaining restricted free agent. He was not one of the 67 players named to the team’s training camp roster on Tuesday and will reportedly not attend training camp until a new contract is signed between him and the team. Vegas Hockey Now.
