After much anticipation, the jerseys the New York Islanders will wear when they face the New York Rangers at MetLife Stadium in the 2024 Stadium Series have been unveiled by the NHL.

The adidas-designed jersey is a deep navy blue, featuring an “Isles” wordmark and an orange stripe across the chest.

According to a release from the NHL, “the stripe is one of the largest chest stripes adidas has ever made for the NHL. It is meant to evoke the Plimsoll line painted on the hull of ships.”

The Islanders have played in one outdoor game before, when they faced the Rangers at Yankee Stadium back in 2014.

Brock Nelson scored the Islanders’ only goal in the 2-1 loss. He’s one of four players who played in that game that is still with the Islanders today, along with Casey Cizikas, Cal Clutterbuck, and Matt Martin.

The Islanders have used an iteration of the sweaters they wore in that game as their alternate third uniform since 2018.

Participating in marquee NHL events such as the Stadium Series is a major priority of the Islanders’ ownership group.

Since moving into UBS Arena three years ago, the organization has expressed interest in hosting both the NHL All-Star Game and the NHL Entry Draft. Eventually, there’s hope to hold a Winter Classic at Belmont Park.

The 2024 NHL Stadium Series at MetLife Stadium will be a two-day event. The New Jersey Devils will meet the Philadelphia Flyers on Sat. Feb. 17 before the Islanders play the Rangers on Sunday, Feb. 18.
