The New York Islanders have announced they’ve signed restricted free agent forward Oliver Wahlstrom to a one-year contract.

According to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, the agreement is on the qualifying offer the Islanders placed on Wahlstrom on June 30. The deadline for Wahlstrom to accept the offer was 5 p.m. this past Saturday, however, there’s no deadline for when the Islanders had to make an announcement.

Wahlstrom, 23, is coming off an injury-shortened season last year, playing in only 35 games before suffering a lower-body injury in late December. Before the injury, Wahlstrom had 16 points with seven goals.

The former 2018 first-round draft pick is entering his fifth NHL season this upcoming year.
