‘That’s Right! Krak-A-Laken’, Gm 39: Islanders vs. Kraken, Lines & More

New York Islanders

On Wednesday, the New York Islanders (16-16-6) welcome Jordan Eberle and the Seattle Kraken (14-27-4) to UBS Arena. The Islanders and Kraken were supposed to play in early January, but a postponement moved their inaugural matchup. Tuesday’s contest is a 7 PM game, not 7:30.

After defeating the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night by a score of 4-1, the Islanders have immense pressure to get another win and head into the All-Star break on a positive note.

The Seattle Kraken are the 30th ranked team in the National Hockey League and the Islanders have done their job against teams under .500 this season with a record of 10-2-3.

The Islanders did not hold a morning skate on Tuesday, with media availability around 4:30 PM.

Although Islanders head coach Barry Trotz went with netminder Ilya Sorokin for two straight starts, with the pending break and the back-to-back scenario, it is likely that Semyon Varlamov is in goal to face Seattle.

Ryan Pulock, who returned to the lineup Tuesday for the first time since Nov. 15, played 15:08 minutes alongside Andy Greene on the third defensive pairing as he eases his way back into a bigger role.

The Seattle Kraken’s All-Star, Jordan Eberle, played four years for the New York Islanders, before he was left unprotected in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. Eberle has 12 goals and 13 assists in 43 games played this season.

Like New York, Seattle is also on the second of a back-to-back. With Chris Driedger getting the start in the 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, it is likely that Phillip Grubauer is in between the pipes Wednesday.

Unavailable Kraken: Brandon Tanev (IR), Jaden Schwartz (IR), Carson Soucy (Out), Jamie Oleksiak (DTD), William Borgen (COVID-19)
