BUFFALO, NY — Good morning folks. The New York Islanders fell to the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout Thursday night and are off Friday before hosting the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night.

Here are your New York Islanders and NHL stories to know for today:

NYI HOCKEY NOW

After not being selected by the NHL to represent the Islanders at the All-Star Game, with Brock Nelson getting the honors, Ilya Sorokin has been voted in by the fans.

Backed by elite goaltending from Ilya Sorokin, the New York Islanders head home with a point, but ultimately blew another lead late in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Before puck drop in Buffalo, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman spoke on a variety of topics, including UBS Arena hosting league events in the future.

The New York Islanders needed offense and brought up 20-year-old William Dufour to provide a spark against the beasts of the East in the Boston Bruins. But like beasts do, they feasted on Dufour and the rest of the Islanders in a 4-1 loss as they did the youngsters no favors.

NATIONAL HOCKEY NOW

Boston Hockey Now: Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak has been voted into the 2023 All-Star game and skills competition. This will be his third time attending and will be joining teammate Linus Ullmark and Head Coach Jim Montgomery in South Florida.

Florida Hockey Now: Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky left Thursday’s game against Montreal with an injury. Alex Lyon stepped up making 23 saves in the 6-2 win.

Vegas Hockey Now: We all hate traffic, trying to get to T-Mobile Arena over the next couple of weeks is going to be a bit tougher.

Montreal Hockey Now: FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! Michael Pezzetta and Ryan Lomberg got the fans on their feet with a good fight on Thursday night against Florida.

San Jose Hockey Now: Radim Simek is almost back after sustaining his second concussion this season.
