The New York Islanders began their preseason schedule this week with games against the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers. Each day, more and more is revealed about the Islanders heading into the regular season, and here’s what we learned this week.
To kick off the week, I asked for your most intriguing questions about the Islanders. All were thought-provoking, and a few were downright strange.
Cory Schneider Announces Retirement:
Just before the Islanders took the ice to open the preseason, a former member of the team revealed he was stepping away from the game. On Tuesday, veteran goalie Cory Schneider announced his retirement from hockey.
Islanders Lose Preseason Opener:
The excitement of finally having hockey back was quickly washed away in the first period of the Islanders’ preseason opener against the Rangers.
Roster Competition Heats Up:
The Islanders have several players competing for key positions in the lineup during training camp. After Wednesday’s game against the Flyers, it’s clear head coach Lane Lambert will have some tough choices to make.
After two preseason games, the Islanders made their initial cuts from training camp, which was headlined by standout defense prospect Isaiah George. George is now back with the London Knights of the OHL, where he will continue his development as one of the Islanders’ top prospects.
#Isles announce the following cuts from training camp:
George, Gill, Lennox, Garat, Jenkins, Kulakov, Moran, Timashov, Asselin, Bardreau, Fritz, Kubiak, Helgeson, Calder, Cipollone, Piercey, Pivonka, Cosgrove, Krygier, Sevigny and Tikkanen

Palmieri Still M.IA.:
We’ve seen nearly every player within the Islanders’ organization in action during training camp. The lone exception, though, is Kyle Palmieri, whose absence is beginning to become concerning.
Revenge Over The Rangers:
It may only be the preseason, but any win over the Rangers is satisfying.
