DETROIT–  New York Islanders president and general manager Lou Lamoriello provided updates on the team’s recent injuries ahead of its game tonight against the Detroit Red Wings.

Scott Mayfield:

Scott Mayfield remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury. He is currently back in New York while the Islanders are on the road. The team will reevaluate him once returning home.

Mayfield has missed the last three games and a total of 17 this season.

Hudson Fasching:

It’s expected that the Islanders will recall Hudson Fasching from AHL Bridgeport when his conditioning stint ends today. However, he will remain on long-term injured reserve.

When Fasching is recalled, he will not count against the Islander’s salary cap.

Fasching has been out of action since suffering a lower-body injury on Jan. 25 and was placed on LTIR last week retroactive to that date.

Fasching played three games in Bridgeport during his continuing stint. He scored a power-play goal during Bridgeport’s 5-3 win over Springfield this past Sunday.

In 35 games with the Islanders, Fasching has eight points and three goals.

Samuel Bolduc:

Samuel Bolduc has also spent the last week down in Bridgeport, and it appears he’ll remain there for the time being.

The young blue-liner has struggled with the Islanders this season, receiving inconsistent playing time while filling in for other injured defensemen across 33 games.

With the Islanders now having ample defensive depth, they sent Bolduc down so he could find his game once again.

“It’s about confidence [with him],” Islanders head coach Patrick Roy said of Boduc last week. “He’s down there for a short period of time, and we just want him to pick up his confidence so when he comes, he feels good. That’s that’s all we want.”

Bolduc has a goal on his record since being sent to Bridgeport. Since he wasn’t passed through waivers and isn’t on long-term injured reserve, Bolduc still counts against the Islanders’ salary cap while playing in the AHL.

Robert Bortuzzo:

Robert Bortuzzo has not resumed skating but continues to rehab a lower-body injury he suffered back on Jan. 2.

Bortuzzo looked to be making steps towards rejoining the Islanders when he participated in team practices following the All-Star break, but a recent setback pushed his eventual return off indefinitely.

The Islanders (24-20-14) and Red Wings (33-20-6) will faceoff at Little Caesars Arena tonight starting at 7 p.m. EST.
