WATCH: Islanders Sorokin STONES Penguins Letang With the Paddle

New York Islanders, Ilya Sorokin

With the New York Islanders down 2-1 late in the second period, netminder Ilya Sorokin made one of the best saves of the 2022-23 season and possibly one of the strongest saves of his young NHL career.

After Pittsburgh Penguins forward Kris Letang got in in-tight on Sorokin, Ryan Pulock disrupted the play forcing Letang to Sorokin’s right.

However, Sorokin had played to the initial shot and found himself out of position as Letang collected the puck on his backhand.

With an open frame, it seemed that the Penguins were about to go up 3-1, but Sorokin said no as somehow he got his paddle on the shot, timing it perfectly to keep the Islanders within one.

Here’s a slow-motion replay, which makes the save look even more insane:

Through two periods, Sorokin made 23 saves on 24 shots and was by far the Islanders’ best player.

This story will be updated following the game.
