The New York Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers will face each other in the postseason for the first time in 33 years. The Flyers defeated the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night to set up the Second Round showdown between the divisional rivals.
The last time the two teams faced in the postseason was back in 1987, when the Flyers eliminated the Islanders in seven games in the Division Final. The Islanders are 1-3 all-time against the Flyers in the postseason.
The New York Islanders’ only series win against the Flyers came in the 1980 Stanley Cup Final.
The Second Round series between New York and Philadelphia will begin on Monday at 7 p.m. The series has the potential for two sets of back-to-back games. Game 2 will take place on Wednesday at 3 p.m. with Game 3 the following night at 7 p.m.
Game 6 and Game 7 also have the potential to be played back-to-back.
As the lower seed, the New York Islanders will be the home team in Game 3, Game 4 and Game 6. It is the second time in the postseason they’ve been the lower seed.
