Bo Horvat Takes Part in First Islanders Practice, Skates With Mat Barzal
EAST MEADOW, NY — On January 29, the New York Islanders parted ways with Anthony Beauvillier, top prospect Aatu Räty, and a 2023 conditional first-round pick as they acquired Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat, who is in the midst of a career season.
Before Bo Horvat could start his New York Islanders journey, he headed to South Florida to take part in the All-Star festivities, representing the Western Conference but donning the Islanders Reverse Retro Fisherman sweater.
It was a weird, hectic week for Horvat his family, but he was eager to get on the ice with his new teammates and start playing some meaningful hockey.
“It was great, but at the same time, I want to get going,” Bo Horvat said following the All-Star Game. “Like, that’s enough now. Let’s start playing some games, get to know the guys. I just want to start playing hockey, and so I’m really looking forward to getting there tomorrow.”
After flying in on Sunday morning, Horvat was on the ice Sunday afternoon as he took part in his first skate with his new club.

As expected, his initial line rushes came alongside Mathew Barzal, who was on the right wing with Josh Bailey on the left. Barzal and Horvat did alternate positions.
Horvat, who has 11 power-play goals this season, jumped right onto the Islanders’ top power-play unit. He was in the high slot, in the bumper position.
