Rapid Recap: Islanders Outworked By Struggling Flyers, Lose 3-1 (ENG)

PHILADELPHIA– The New York Islanders were outworked by the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night as they fell 3-1. The Flyers snap their 10-game losing streak, while the Islanders’ four-game win streak comes to a close.

The Islanders are now 15-9-0.

SCORING

Noah Dobson gave the New York Islanders a 1-0 lead at 3:12 on the first as he refiled one blocker side past Philadelphia Flyers netminder Carter Hart on a five-on-three power play. Mathew Barzal and Brock Nelson were credited with the assists on Dobson’s seventh of the season.

Travis Sanheim tied the contest at one as after Ryan Pulock broke up a two-on-one, Sanheim flipped the puck over Ilya Sorokin’s blocker and in for his second of the season. Noah Cates and Lukas Sedlack were credited with the assists at 4:37 of the first period.

Kevin Hayes gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at 9:45 of the first period as, off an offensive-zone face-off, he sniped Sorokin glove side for his seventh of the season. Sedlack was credited with the lone assist.

Hayes scored his second of the game, an empty-net goal at 19:26 of the third. Provorov with the lone assist.

Islanders Outworked

The New York Islanders failed to get to their game early against the Philadelphia Flyers and sleepwalked through two periods. The Flyers, a team on a 10-game losing streak, outworked them for most of the game.

Despite the Islanders scoring first, they were very lackadaisical in their own zone leading to two goals against, including a shorthanded one.

If it wasn’t for Ilya Sorokin, the Islanders would have been down by much more than one. But he kept them within striking distance, as he usually does.

The Islanders were outshot 33-24.

Bad Blood Boils Over

The topic of discussion throughout the days leading up to the New York Islanders’ rematch with the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night was if the bad blood would carry over. New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert didn’t think so.

However, Ross Johnston was inserted into the lineup for what we believed to be rookie Simon Holmstrom, but a late Josh Bailey injury announcement (day-to-day, upper-body) had both in the lineup.

And right as the first period began, Matt Martin fought Zack MacEwen followed by Ross Johnston dropping the gloves against Nic Deslauriers.

Bailey Late Scratch, Clutterbuck Hurt

Following warmups, the New York Islanders announced that forward Josh Bailey was day-to-day as he is dealing with an upper-body injury. He took part in warmups, but was unable to go. Simon Holmstrom skated in his place.

Cal Clutterbuck left the game prior to the conclusion of the first period, as his last shift came with 4:22 to go in the opening frame. He’s missed a few games this season.
