Barry Trotz behind the New York Islanders bench after missing last three contests

After missing the last three contests, New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz was back behind the bench for the contest against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, Jan. 17.

Trotz did not join the Islanders for their morning skate on Monday, as he rarely is on the ice unless it is a full-team practice. He was not on the ice for warmups but made the dramatic entrance as the Islanders took the ice for the start of the game.

It had been a rough month for New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz.

Due to the passing of his mother, Trotz took some personal time and missed the New Years’ Day contest against the Edmonton Oilers. He did not return until Saturday, Jan. 8, a week later.

After a few days back at practice, Trotz was again missing.

A positive COVID-19 test landed Trotz in protocol and forced him to miss the contest against the New Jersey Devils (Jan. 13) and the previous contest against his former team in the Washington Capitals (Jan. 15).

Associate coach Lane Lambert served as head coach throughout Trotz’s absence and ran the practices.
