New York Islanders, UBS Arena

You could say it was a banner day at UBS Arena on Tuesday.

The New York Islanders soon-to-be home installed the team’s championship banners and retired numbers on Tuesday as construction crews race to put the finishing touches on the arena. UBS Arena is still under construction, which has forced the Islanders to play their first 13 games of the season on the road.

The banner installation is another significant milestone as preparations continue.

The ice surface was placed down over the weekend and painted with the Islanders logo at center ice. Video of the Zamboni arriving at UBS Arena was also posted on social media on Monday.

The New York Islanders will play their first game at their new home on Nov. 20 against the Calgary Flames. The first event to be held at UBS Arena will be a charity concert the night before.
