It is Friday, and there is New York Islanders news to share.

Before we dive into the coaching move that was made on Thursday, you have to hear about Garth Snow becoming the New York Islanders general manager and how that came to fruition.

Kyle Okposo, in an interview with Spittin’ Chiclets, shared a story that Snow would work on trades on the back of the bus, and Ryan Whitney shared that Snow won their fantasy hockey league. It makes a lot of sense given what transpired while Snow was the general manager.

Also the NHL announced that following the 2023-24 season, their partnership with Adidas will end, meaning the need to find a new jersey sponsor. Right now, Nike owns the jersey rights for the NBA, NFL, and MLB, so could Nike own the rights to the four major North American sports leagues soon?

NYI Hockey Now: On July 5, the New York Islanders hired two assistant coaches in Doug Houda and Brian Wiseman, as they joined rookie head coach Lane Lambert’s staff for the 2022-23 season. On Thursday, the Islanders announced that they have hired John MacLean, as Wiseman is no longer joining the staff.

NYI Hockey Now: On Thursday, New York Islanders forward Zach Parise celebrated his 38th birthday. The young gun is set to enter his 18th season in the NHL, his second season as a member of the New York Islanders, after signing a one-year extension back on Trade Deadline Day. Read about what his teammates had to say about him following his first year on Long Island.

NYI Hockey Now: The World Junior Championships kick off Sunday, August 9, in Edmonton Alberta, after the tournament was canceled back in December due to COVID-19. The New York Islanders have three players representing Team Finland in Aatu Räty, Eetu Liukas, and Matias Rajaniemi.

The Prospects Challenge features rookies, prospects, and draft picks from the Montreal Canadiens, the Buffalo Sabres, the New Jersey Devils, the Ottawa Senators, the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Detroit Hockey Now: Who says the Detroit Red Wings-Colorado Avalanche rivalry is dead? Not Dominik Hasek and Valeri Kamensky, that’s for sure. Sure, a lot of ice has been resurfaced by Zambonis since Hasek was a Red Wings goalie and Kamensky an Avalanche forward. And their current war of words certainly isn’t about the bitter, old days.

Colorado Hockey Now: A good Twitter follow for serious hockey people is that of Dimitri Filipovic. He really breaks down video well of players/trends/whatever. He’s got a great tweet Thursday on just how good Cale Makar was on breakouts in the playoffs. This will be a very satisfying two-plus minutes for Avalanche fans.
