Rosner: J-G Pageau the Islanders Player to Watch Against Capitals

New York Islanders Jean-Gabriel Pageau

New York Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau has a few nicknames. You got the usual “JG” and “Pager,” but we can add one more name to that list.

“Dad”.

On Thursday, Pageau and his wife Camille welcomed their first child, a little boy named Tommy.

“It was amazing. It was our first one, our little boy,” Pageau said on the birth of his son. “Everything went well, my wife is doing well, Tommy’s doing well. Just a great experience.”

Jean Gabriel Pageau and teammate Sebastian Aho both missed Thursday’s 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils due to the birth of their children.

In his absence, the Islanders lost the face-off battle (42.0%) as Pageau has won 58.6% of his draws this season.

If it remains the same or improves before the end of the season, that number will be a new career-high.

The 29-year old has five goals, and five assists in 25 games played this season. He did not seem completely healthy to start the season but seemed to get stronger as this season went on.

Pageau put together a five-game point streak (2G, 3A) from Dec. 4 – Dec. 11, but has just one point in his last five contests.

In eight contests against Washington last season, Pageau had just one goal.

For Saturday’s contest, Pageau will likely remain with his usual winger Zach Parise, but will now have Kieffer Bellows on his wing rather than Oliver Wahlstrom, who was promoted to the second line.

With the lack of games as of late, there’s usually no easy way to provide a spark other than in-game success.

And after having not played a game in 13 days, the addition to the Pageau family should provide a spark like no other.
