The New York Islanders will be playing their third preseason game at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Saturday, the first of three games. The franchise’s AHL affiliate, formerly the Sound Tigers, rebranded this offseason to the Bridgeport Islanders. Saturday will mark the first game played in Bridgeport with fans for the first time in 18 months as Christian Arnold spoke with the team’s president of operations to discuss the latest on the rebrand, COVID-19 regulations, and more. Defenseman Erik Gustafsson is on a professional tryout with the Islanders. He spoke to the media and stated that he is glad for his opportunity on the island. Goaltender Louis Domingue, currently in Pittsburgh, opened up to the media about his struggles the last few seasons. He stated that because of the situation with COVID-19, being on the taxi squad, and playing for five teams in a span of one season got to him. Defenseman Brad Hunt is looking to make the Vancouver Canucks this season. He has a very calm demeanor and his doing what he can do in camp to stand out. “I just control the things that I can control and that’s how hard I work at practice and how I am in the dressing room and that’s all I can really focus on. After missing the whole 2020-21 season with chronic immune response syndrome, Chicago Blackhawks Jonathan Toews played in his first game in quite some time. He had an assist and scored in the shootout in his return. (NHL)

Mark Giordano scored a goal in his return to Calgary with the Seattle Kraken, a 4-3 shootout win against the Calgary Flames in a preseason game at Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday. Giordano, who had played his entire 15-season career with the Flames after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2004, was claimed by the Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft on July 21. (NHL)

Peter McNab has been diagnosed with cancer but will continue his role as television analyst for the Colorado Avalanche beginning with their preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights in Denver on Oct. 5. The 69-year-old was elected to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2021 with award-winning journalist and broadcaster Stan Fischler and former NHL player, coach and executive Paul Holmgren, and has been with the Avalanche since their inaugural season in 1995.
