NYHN Daily: Islanders Preseason Game Cancelled, Update on Eichel & More

The New York Islanders were supposed to play their fifth preseason game on Thursday, but a power outage at the Prudential Center led to the game being canceled. The game will not be made up against the Devils, with the Islanders back on action Saturday night against the New York Rangers at Webster Bank Arena.

The New York Islanders were unable to play their game in New Jersey. The Prudential Center had a partial power outage, that was unable to be fixed leading to the cancellation of the game. The NHL announced that the game will not be made up. The first star of the game, that was not played, was the DJ at The Rock, who played music associated with light or lack thereof, which kept the fans engaged until the eventual cancellation. David Pastrnak has accomplished it all. He’s a goal-scorer in the NHL, puts on an Oscar performance in every Dunkin’ commercial. Now, Pastrnak has lauched his own brand of Pasta, called…well…Pasta. The cool thing about the Stop n Shop product is that that will sell for 88 cents (in honor of Pastrnak wearing No. 88), with all proceeds going to support pediatric cancer research and care at two Boston-based organizations, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. The Pittsburgh Penguiuns young squad fell victim to a Detroit Red Wings team who’s top propsects are NHL ready, some making the club. 4-2 was the final score, as most Penguins struggled, with a few standouts such as Drew O’Connor and Mike Matheson. (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

Matt Irwin is entering his 10th NHL seaosn and the unrestricted free agent decided that it was best for him to sign with the Washington Capitals. Irwin at 33 is looking to show he can still play a role for the Caps at the NHL level. (Washington Hockey Now)

The Florida Panthers will not end the preseason unbeaten after all. On Thursday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning scored three goals in the second period and handed Florida’s its first loss of the exhibition season 6-2 at Amalie Arena. In the preseason finale, the Detroit Red Wings got a lot of help from rookie Joe Veleno. He had a goal and an assist in the 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Head coach Jeff Blashill spoke highly of the rookie as well as gave an update on the availabity of Tyler Betuzzi. (Detroit Hockey Now)

It has not been smooth sailing for the Colorado Avalance this preseason. After losing 3-1 on Thursday to the Dallas Stars, the Avs follow to 1-4. Head coach Jared Bednar did not coach this game due to a positive COVID-19 test. (Colorado Hockey Now)

The San Jose Sharks have claimed Jonah Gadjovich off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks. The 6’2 winger performed quite well in the AHL last season, but his speed was a sign for concern. With the Sharks in need of a net-front presence on their second power-play unit, Gadjovich seems to fit the mole, as that is where he scores his goals from. (San Jose Hockey Now)

The Vancouver Canucks were hit the hardest by COVID-19 last season, to the point where playing a full 56-games seemed like a long-shot. The Canucks thought they left that nightmare behind, but depth forward, AHLer Justin Bailey showed up 10 days late to training camp due to two positive tests. Fortunately, the symptoms were minimal. Blake Coleman, the Calgary Flames offseason signee, has been suspended one preseason game and once regular-season game. He boarded Winnipeg Jets forward Jansen Harkins and was called for a minor penalty. (NHL)

In the latest edition of Inside Trading, there is news regarding the Jack Eichel saga. The Sabres are willing to make part of Eichel trade conditional, as teams need insurance if Eichel is not the same player when he returns, whenever that may be. (TSN)
