On Thursday the Islanders took to the UBS Arena ice for the very first time. The Islanders are in a familiar spot, seeing a defenseman go down. A few years ago, Adam Pelech was out for a while and Barry Trotz can use that experience to handle this situation.

As the construction continued around them, the New York Islanders got the first taste of their new home on Thursday morning. The team opted to practice at UBS Arena ahead of Saturday’s home opener to get a feel for the new building. Around them, workers continued to put the finishing touches on the building. The Detroit Red Wings fell to the Golden Knights in Vegas by a score of 5-2. One major issue for the Red Wings as of late has been their defensive-zone miscues, which piled up in the loss.
