NYHN Daily: Gustafsson Released by Islanders, Brady TKachuk Stalemate Continues & More

It was another day of surprises by the New York Islanders, who released defenseman Erik Gustafsson from his PTO. It was just the latest surprising roster decision the Islanders made over the weekend. North of the border, the Ottawa Senators are still in a contract stalemate with Brady Tkachuk with the start of the season almost here.

Despite a strong showing in camp, the Islanders released Erik Gustafsson from his PTO on Sunday and the free-agent defenseman is expected to sign a deal with Chicago. Gustafsson had been projected to be the Isles seventh defenseman to start the year. (NYI Hockey Now)

Former Islanders forward Frans Nielsen is headed overseas to continue his hockey career. The longtime Islander will play for Eisbaren Berlin of the DEL. He spent 10 years wearing orange and blue, and in that time 349 points over the course of 606 NHL games for New York. (Pro Hockey Rumors)
