The New York Islanders and General Manager Mathieu Darche remained busy. The franchise inked F Emil Heineman to a two-year deal on Wednesday afternoon.

The deal is worth $2.2 million, giving it an AAV of $1.1 million per year. Renaud Lavoie reported the financials. Heineman will once again be an RFA upon expiry.

Heineman, 23, came over in the Noah Dobson trade that also brought the 16th and 17th overall picks in the 2025 NHL Draft. The Islanders used those picks on Victor Eklund and Kashawn Aitcheson.

Heineman scored 10 goals and 18 points in 62 games with the Montreal Canadiens this past season. The youngster also threw 173 hits in those 62 games, just under three hits per game. He added one playoff game in five games.

Heineman is an excellent skater and leaves everything out there. Ask anyone who watched Montreal games this past season, Heineman’s all heart on the ice.

On current projections, Heineman will either begin the year on the third or fourth line as a perfect option for both special teams and depth.
