PREDICTION: Are These Islanders Reverse Retro Jerseys?

The New York Islanders will be going with the Fisherman style for their 2022-23 Reverse Retro jersey. A source told NYI Hockey Now back in February of last season that this would be the case and continued conversations over the summer shed more detail on what we could see and what we would not see in the new-look, revamped Fisherman-style sweaters.

New Information on New York Islanders Fisherman Reverse Retro Jersey

The big takeaways from the New York Islanders Reverse Retro intel we received over the summer were that the jersey would be navy blue, teal would only be underneath the crest, and the face of the fisherman would be grey.

The release date for the Reverse Retro jerseys is slated for Oct. 20, with a sneak peek coming on Oct. 19. Ali Murji, who has been on top of all the information for these jerseys, along with artist Orion Taylor, put together a prediction catalog based on the information they had received.

Their New York Islanders Reverse Retro prediction looks in line with everything that NYI Hockey Now has heard…except for two things.

We were told that there would be no shoulder patches like in the original Fisherman jerseys, as well as the fact that numbers would be white, outlined in orange. We trust the information we were given, but besides those two things, Murji’s design fits the mold of the details that we had.

For fans that hated the Fisherman Jersey back in the late 1990s, these are a much cleaner look and with the bright orange mixed in with the navy blue, and a tad bit of white, these jerseys pop.

The New York Islanders 2021-22 Reverse Retro jerseys, just a darker blue version of their current home sweaters, did not receive much support from the New York Islanders faithful.

But this fisherman jersey, shoulder patch or not, deviates from the Islanders’ regular sweater, despite it being a blast from the past.

And once these hit the shelf, the New York Islanders fan base will be lining up to get all the Reverse Retro Fisherman apparel they can get their hands on.
