Tuesday’s Practice: Clutterbuck & Mayfield Return, Lee Missing
The New York Islanders welcomed back a few familiar faces on Tuesday, as defenseman Scott Mayfield and forward Cal Clutterbuck joined the group for their team practice. Team captain Anders Lee was missing from practice.
When New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello spoke to the media following their roster announcement on Monday night, he shared that Scott Mayfield was not dealing with an injury. He had been missing from the New “Scott’sanders since OHe’s2 due to an illness.
“Scott’s 100 percent. He’s been a little under the weather. He has been skating on his own for a couple of days, and he will join the team tomorrow,” Lamoriello said. “He should be ready for opening night.”
At practice, Mayfield was back alongside Robin Salo, a duo paired together from the start of training camp.

“Nice. It’s a good day,” Salo said about having Mayfield back. “Just feels good to play with him. He’s solid..he [has] very good positioning, so it feels good to have him back.”
For Cal Clutterbuck, the Islanders announced Monday evening that he had been placed on IR retroactive to Sept. 26.
“Cal had a little soreness after one of the games. And we shut him down completely to get it so that he was 100 percent,” Lamoriello said. “Maybe we did a little too much. But he has been skating on his own, and he will be joining the team on a day-to-day situation. And so we expected this to be a short turnaround as far as him being in the lineup.”
Lamoriello also explained that he can be activated off of IR as soon as he is ready but was doubtful he would be in the opening night lineup.
Oliver Wahlstrom skated with the Islanders for a second straight day. He told us that he was dealing with a weird upper-body injury sustained in a preseason game and was feeling much better.
After two days on the ice with the team, Lambert liked what he had seen.
