Islanders Game 49: Tsyplakov Takes on Philly; Lines, Notes & How to Watch

Published

on

PHILADELPHIA — The New York Islanders (22-20-7) will travel for the first time since January 11 in Utah, following a largely successful seven-game homestand that revived this season. The Philadelphia Flyers (23-23-6) will await them in the city of Brotherly Love, where they’ll host the Islanders inside the Wells Fargo Center.

The two teams met twice in the last two weeks, and physicality was a strong point in both. Most notably, Maxim Tsyplakov will take on the Flyers for the first time since he injured Ryan Poehling with a check that subsequently got Tsyplakov suspended for three games. In that first meeting on January 16, New York fell at home to Philadelphia 5-3.

Since then, the Islanders have not lost. They enter winners of five straight games, which includes a 3-1 win over the Flyers on January 24, where Tsyplakov served the final game of his suspension. During the win streak, New York has outscored their opponents 18-7 and has allowed more than one goal twice, just to the Carolina Hurricanes and the Colorado Avalanche.

Philadelphia played against the Devils last night in New Jersey. The Devils trounced the Flyers 5-0 in Newark, NJ. It’s safe to say Philadelphia should come out motivated. Ivan Fedotov starts for the Flyers after making a relief appearance last night.

The game is a national ESPN+ exclusive game, the second in a row for the Islanders. The puck drops just after 7:30 tonight.
