Send in the Sens, Gm 61: Islanders vs. Senators, Game Notes & More
After a hectic Monday across the National Hockey League, the schedule for the New York Islanders resumes on Tuesday as they face the Ottawa Senators at UBS Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 PM.
The New York Islanders stood pat this trade deadline season and now will use the remaining 22 games to figure things out for next season.
“Let’s not start next year. Let’s continue where we are, and build from here and say, you know, listen, let’s finish strong, let’s finished the way we need to play.”
“And we’ll start, you know, next year with hopefully, a little more traction than we got this year.”
The New York Islanders held an optional morning skate on Tuesday. Andy Greene, who did not play this past Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers, skated. Head coach Barry Trotz stated that he would be back in the lineup.
Cal Clutterbuck, who also did not play Sunday, did not skate Tuesday and Trotz said that he is day-to-day and will return to the lineup when he is able to play “his game”.
Kieffer Bellows and Ross Johnston remained on the ice following the optional morning skate, along with Matt Martin. Bellows remained out the longest.
Semyon Varlamov was the first Islanders netminder off the ice Tuesday morning and will make his 20th start of the season.
Mathieu Joseph, who was acquired by the Ottawa Senators in the Nick Paul trade on Monday, will make his Senators debut Tuesday night.
Former Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic, who was acquired Monday as well, will not be in the lineup. He will join the Senators in Winnipeg on Thursday.
