New York Islanders
Islanders Mailbag: Submit Your Questions Here

The New York Islanders’ summer continues to chug along. It’s been the most seismic offseason since 2018, and it isn’t particularly close.
It’s been an eventful summer, from the dismissal of Lou Lamoriello to winning the NHL Draft Lottery to hiring Mathieu Darche.
As of writing, the Islanders have around $21 million in cap space with four key RFAs- Simon Holmstrom, Noah Dobson, Alexander Romanov, and Maxim Tsyplakov- all needing raises. The Islanders, who Darche made clear want to compete, still want to be somewhat aggressive in free agency, but may not go all in on the UFA market this summer.
There’s also the issue of the NHL Draft. It seems clear that the New York Islanders will select Matthew Schaefer with the first overall pick. The story is becoming how badly the franchise also wants James Hagens. Yesterday, ESPN reported the Islanders would “make a play” for Utah’s fourth overall pick if Hagens, as expected, is there.
Hagens made it clear the Islanders are his preference, going as far as to say he desperately wants to win the Stanley Cup with the Islanders. Universally across the Islanders’ world, fans have made their choice clear: Schaefer, then do whatever it takes to bring Hagens home to Long Island.
With that, you might have questions now. Let’s get right to it.
