The next domino of the trade deadline for the New York Islanders has come down. The New York Islanders will not trade Kyle Palmieri as the two sides work toward a contract extension.

Earlier today, the Buffalo Sabres inked Jason Zucker to a two-year deal worth $4.75 annually. Palmieri is expected to sign a deal under his current cap hit of $5 million. There is no agreement at this time.

Palmieri has 20 goals and 41 points across 62 games while playing in all situations. He’s been a steady performer under head coach Patrick Roy and has thrived in the system, with Roy trusting him everywhere on the ice.

If he isn’t moved, an extension is expected to be agreed to in relatively short order. Attention now turns to Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Anders Lee, two players generating a lot of buzz.

There’s also the question of whether or not Lou Lamoriello has a trick up his sleeve with a major trade that nobody sees coming. There are less than three hours until the deadline, so keep it locked here.
