BREAKING: Islanders Fire Lou Lamoriello

The shoe has dropped. After seven years in charge, the New York Islanders fired Lou Lamoriello on Tuesday afternoon.
The press release reads as follows:
“Islanders News: The New York Islanders organization announced today that Lou Lamoriello’s contract as General Manager will not be renewed. Effective immediately, Operating Partner John Collins will lead a search to find the next General Manager.”
Lamoriello took over the Islanders in May 2018 and led them to two conference finals in 2020 and 2021, but the team has only won three playoff games since.
The team finished 23rd in the NHL, the worst they’ve finished under Lamoriello. No word on AGM and Bridgeport GM Chris Lamoriello.
Patrick Roy’s status remains firmly under review.
