We are now just one day away from the start of NHL Free Agency. Unrestricted free agents have until the end of the day to sign that eighth year with their respective clubs before they lose out on that opportunity. Why did Michael Dal Colle not receive a qualifying offer from the New York Islanders? Is Evgeni Malkin really leaving the Pittsburgh Penguins? What are the Washington Capitals doing?

These stories and more in today’s Rosner Wrap:

NYI Hockey Now: The New York Islanders, whether you are convinced yet or not, got better up in Montreal with the acquisition of defenseman Alexander Romanov from the Montreal Canadiens. On Monday, Romanov was tendered a qualifying offer but that was not before his old club, CSKA Moscow, offered him a two-year deal to try to get him to play in Russia. Romanov is in the states.

NYI Hockey Now: Story from Saturday, but it rings true Monday. The New York Islanders did not tender a qualifying offer to Michael Dal Colle. That’s what we expected here at NYI Hockey Now. Read up on why he would not get qualified.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Is Evgeni Malkin really going to leave the Pittsburgh Penguins? Well, the centerman and the Penguins failed to come to a contract agreement and for the first time in his career, Malkin will be testing the market. Oh boy.

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins are without Brad Marchand to start the season, their best forward and offensive producer. They will also be missing their best defenseman, Charlie McAvoy. David Pastrnak rumors are swirling. Is a rebuild coming? Ownership believes that would be a tough sell to the fanbase.

Washington Hockey Now: The Washington Capitals have had an interesting week. They dealt netminder Vitek Vanecek to the New Jersey Devils, as it seemed they had chosen RFA Ilya Samsonov over Vanecek. But on Monday, Samsonov did not receive a qualifying offer. Why is that?

Montreal Hockey Now: The Montreal Canadiens had their first day of development camp on Monday. How did first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky perform? How about Logan Mailloux? We got you covered.

Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers are coming off a season in which they were President Trophy winners. A team that made it to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, before being swept by their in-state rival, the Tampa Bay Lightning. And now with free agency set to begin, is there enough salary cap space to add a piece or two to be even stronger?

Colorado Hockey Now: Since the Chicago Blackhawks are cleaning house, they might as well trade Patrick Kane one of these days, eh? Well, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman stated that Patrick Kane could end up a Colorado Avalanche…I mean seriously?

San Jose Hockey Now: Will the San Jose Sharks be moving defenseman Brent Burns? “I’ve heard there’s been quite a bit of interest,” Elliotte Friedman said on the 32 Thoughts Podcast this morning. “Several teams have called San Jose [to ask] what are we talking about here?” Newly appointed general manager Mike Grier did not shut the idea down.

Calgary Hockey Now: Eight years from now, you must wonder if people will be talking about Matt Coronato — or any of the Calgary Flames prospects attending development camp this week — the way they’re talking about Johnny Gaudreau right now.
