Mat Barzal’s Oscar-Worthy Performance in Unaired Commercial

New York Islanders, Mathew Barzal

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal is known for his superb skating, slick passing, and a lethal wrist shot, when he does let the puck go. But did you know he is also a world-class actor?

Four years ago, Mathew Barzal starred in a commercial with Spittin’ Chiclets Paul Bissonnette, otherwise known as “Biznasty” for a company called “YBuy.ca” which has since gone out of business.

The commercial never did air but the Spittin’ Chiclets Twitter account elected to share the commercial on Friday, in order to embarass their fellow podcastee

Enjoy this master class acting job by Bissonnette and Barzal.

Barzal has shown accuracy at the NHL level and showcased it with that beer can throw. As New York Islanders color commentator, and legend, Butch Goring would say, that beer went into the “toy department”.

This commercial seems to have been filmed after Mathew Barzal’s Calder trophy winning season, in which the Rookie of the Year scored 22 goals with 63 assists in 82 games. It’s also around the same time that the New York Islanders ownership group hired Lou Lamoriello as their general manager.

And we know how strict Lamoriello is with anyone who is apart of his organizations. Could he have been a reason for why the commercial never aired?

New York Islanders fans do not have the luxury of seeing Islander players in commercials often, if ever. The only commercial we could see them being in is one for razors…

It was not until the recent success when Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz came in, in 2018, that commercials, like Fanatics or even NHL commercials, included people, fans wearing Islanders gears.

The quesiton is, will Mathew Barzal ever been in another commercial or is it more likely that we will see his name on a cereal box like a former New York Islander?
