Kevin Weekes Hints 4 Islanders Transactions Are Coming
NHL goaltender turned ESPN analyst Kevin Weekes has been killing the reporting game. He’s known for breaking news with humorous videos, and his “Keep an Eye on” tweets usually catch fire. They also turn out to be correct. But he has not tweeted about the New York Islanders…until Wednesday:
**Keep an eye 👁 on**
I can’t put a definitive timeline to them, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see at least 4 transactions with the @NYIslanders coming down the line.@espn @NHLNetwork @NHL #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/SMUb0aR9uk— Kevin Weekes (@KevinWeekes) August 10, 2022
Now, this announcement by Kevin Weekes should not come as a shock to the New York Islanders fans, especially readers of NYI Hockey Now. We first reported the likelihood of Kadri signing with the Islanders last week.
There are two obvious signings that are likely already completed, in RFA’s Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov. The third transaction is RFA Kieffer Bellows.
All signs and an increasing number of national reports point to the New York Islanders signing or having already signed free agent centerman Nazem Kadri. It should be noted, that nothing is official, and nothing is a done deal until the contract is submitted.
Last week, sources told NYI Hockey Now that Kadri would be a New York Islander, but a contract has to be moved out for the Islanders to fit him under the cap, which Lamoriello wants to get done first.
So there’s the likely fourth and fifth move, moving out a contract(s) and signing the best free agent available.
Also as reported by NYI Hockey Now, the New York Islanders have been unable to move Josh Bailey and his $5 million. They are now looking at another avenue in Anthony Beauvillier, who carries a cap hit of $4.15 million.
Even though Beauvillier is being shopped, that does not mean shopping Bailey has stopped. Could Bellows be a sweetener in a deal to take a contract like Bailey’s?
As we saw last summer, Lamoriello takes his time filing contracts with the NHL, and it would not be a shock if September arrives before anything is official.
