Rosner Wrap: Kieffer Bellows Speaks on Islanders, Scouts in Vancouver & More
The New York Islanders are in Chicago to face the Blackhawks Tuesday night as they kickstart their second road trip of the season.
The group is firing on all cylinders as they have won three straight, outscoring their elite opponents 14-6.
Last week, the New York Islanders lost their former 2016 first-round pick Kieffer Bellows to waivers, as the Philadelphia Flyers snatched him up. The 24-year-old goal scorer never found a way to be a consistent NHLer, and this season was not given the chance that he may have needed to build on a strong end to his 2021-22 season.
Kieffer Bellows has played just one game with the Philadelphia Flyers, a 4-3 shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in which he played 11:50 minutes, notching three hits and was a minus-1.
In an NBC Sports Philadelphia article a few days ago, Kieffer Bellows spoke about the New York Islanders and being placed on waivers:
“It was a decision by Lou to put me on waivers, and we talked about it,” he said. “I respect his decision, he’s got to do what’s best for his team, it’s a business. I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done for me over the past few years, he has taken care of me. It’s a class-act organization over there. It was sad to leave the guys, it’s such a nice team over there, but I’m excited for this opportunity.”
Kieffer Bellows came into training camp like a man on a mission and just did not show enough of what Lane Lambert and Lou Lamoriello needed to keep him around over players like Nikita Soshnikov and Ross Johnston.
Did the Islanders expect him to get claimed? Were there plans afterward?
Regardless, Kieffer Bellows should get a chance to play on a banged-up Flyers team.
