The New York Islanders didn’t have much to say when they were asked about a moment from Wednesday’s AEW wrestling show that went viral.

The moment occurred when famed wrestler CM Punk was speaking to the crowd during AEW’s first show at UBS Arena, home to the Islanders. Punk, encouraging the crowd to boo him and then disappointed that the crowd was loud enough, said  “somebody call Barry Trotz, I figured out why the Islanders have yet to win a game in this building.”

The clip went viral in hockey circles and Scott Mayfield was asked by a reporter ahead of Thursday’s game with the Nashville Predators if he had seen it. “Yeah I didn’t see anything about that so I’m not sure what that is,” Scott Mayfield replied.

The New York Islanders have yet to win a game at UBS Arena, but have picked up points in their last two games at the new rink. They also snapped an 11-game skid on Tuesday with a 5-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on the road.

The Islanders’ turn in fortunes has been buoyed by the return of a number of key players from COVID protocol. Casey Cizikas had been the lone Islander still in protocol, but he skated on Thursday with the team during the morning skate.
