New York Islanders netminders, Semyon Varlamov & Ilya Sorokin

We are just one day away from the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft. By the time you are reading this, I’m hopefully already at the airport and waiting for my flight to board for Montreal. It is my first time covering the draft and looking forward to what the experience will bring. New York Islanders Ilya Sorokin may have an issue returning to the U.S. from Russia, while Lane Lambert brings on two assistant coaches in Doug Houda and Brian Wiseman.

These stories and more in today’s Rosner Wrap:

NYI Hockey Now: The Insider, an independent Russian media outlet, has shared sourced information that players who played for CSKA Moscow, which includes New York Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin may have issues leaving Russia. Sorokin was named by the source.

NYI Hockey Now: On Tuesday, the New York Islanders announced that Doug Houda and Brian Wiseman have been named assistant coaches to Lane Lambert’s staff. Doug Houda is known for his defense and his work on the penalty kill, while Brian Wiseman is known for his ability to develop the skill of younger players.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins retained the skillset of Casey DeSmith, as both sides came to terms a on a two-year deal with an annual value of $1.8 million. DeSmith, 30, has spent his entire career with the Penguins.

Florida Hockey Now: Aleksi Heponiemi will return to the Florida Panthers this coming season after signing a one-year, two-way deal with the team on Tuesday. Heponiemi, 23, played in six games with the Panthers last season getting an assist.

Philly Hockey Now: If the Philadelphia Flyers stay at No. 5 in Thursday’s first round and decide to pick a forward, there are several players they are considering, including center Cutter Gauthier and right winger Joakim Kemell.

Boston Hockey Now: Boston Bruins fans may not like this idea but if Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes has his way and all goes right for the Canadiens at the 2022 NHL Draft, they will come away with a player, or players who follow the career path of Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand.

Montreal Hockey Now: With the 2022 NHL Draft right around the corner, it’s now time for Montreal Hockey Now’s Final 2022 NHL Mock Draft. Here are projected picks 1-65.

Washington Hockey Now:As the Washington Capitals approach the 2022 NHL Draft and the start of free agency, the team has a hefty to-do list that includes finding a new top-6 center. Could Vancouver Canucks J.T. Miller be high on their list of potential acquisitions?

San Jose Hockey Now: With the San Jose Sharks’ official announcement of Mike Grier as the team’s latest general manager, the news has certainly sparked excitement among fans, and more so, it also brought out some of the past fan favorites.

Vancouver Hockey Now: VHN’s humble opinion, these are the Vancouver Canucks most likely to be traded. It doesn’t necessarily include a fixed timetable, it’s just why certain scenarios could unfold. First on the list, J.T. Miller.
