Rosner Wrap: Nelson’s Da Beauty League Hat Trick, Canucks and Miller Far Apart
Good morning and happy Thursday. Nope, no signing news as of yet, although Alexander Romanov wearing all New York Islanders gear should be enough to tell you that at least one RFA has been signed. It’s likely the others were too.
But there is some Islanders news to share.
For the upcoming World Junior Championships, the New York Islanders have three prospects that will be representing Team Finland. 2021 draftee Aatu Räty headlines, along with Matias Rajaniemi (6th round, 2020 Draft) and Eetu Liukas (5th round, 2021).
The Da Beauty League was back in action Wednesday night, and Brock Nelson had himself a contest with three goals and two assists.
Not even halfway through the game and Brock Nelson already has a hat trick! 🎩

Kieffer Bellows had two goals and an assist in his contest. One of his two goals came via the breakaway.

So a strong start for the two Islanders at Da Beauty League.
Now let’s get to your stories for the day!
NYI Hockey Now: New York Islanders broadcaster Brendan Burke turned a dream into a reality when he had the opportunity to call five New York Yankees broadcasts in place of the legend John Sterling earlier this month. But those five games may not be all for Burke behind the Yankees microphone.
NYI Hockey Now: When we at NYI Hockey Now shared what we had heard about the New York Islanders 2022-23 Reverse Retro uniform, the news divided the Islanders fan base. We ran a poll on Twitter, and it was stunning to see how many were in favor of The Fisherman. Your reactions to the announcement were funny too.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins and GM Ron Hextall added a few more goals to the lineup on Wednesday afternoon. In a mildly surprising move, the Penguins re-signed winger Danton Heinen to a one-year contract for $1 million. What a bargain.
Boston Hockey Now: Former Boston Bruins first-round pick (21st overall in the 2003 NHL Draft) and Boston Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart jumped into the NHL coaching ranks this week as he was hired for Jay Woodcroft’s staff with the Edmonton Oilers.
Montreal Hockey Now: Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexander Romanov has traded in the red and white for the orange and blue, as he was on the ice wearing his New York Islanders gear for the first time this past weekend.
Florida Hockey Now: With MacKenzie Weegar headed to Calgary, the Florida Panthers are in need of a new top-pair defenseman. 26-year-old Gustav Forsling will now have a bigger role, but can he fill Weegar’s shoes?
Washington Hockey Now: Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and defenseman Dmitry Orlov are set to take the ice on Thursday as Russia’s top NHL, KHL, and Olympic stars square off against the country’s Paralympic sledge hockey team. Ovechkin is the ambassador of the event.
Vegas Hockey Now: A couple of weeks ago, Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon made his second superstar for nothing trade. Akin to the Marc-Andre Fleury Trade in July of 2021, McCrimmon traded both Max Pacioretty and Dylan Coghlan to the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations in July of 2022. Losing Pacioretty hurts the team but losing Coghlan for nothing also stings.
San Jose Hockey Now: On Tuesday, the San Jose Sharks and general manager Mike Grier introduced David Quinn as head coach. Grier defended Quinn’s time with the Rangers, both shared similar visions of the future. Here are Sheng Peng’s final thoughts.
Vancouver Hockey Now: Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford popped up on The Bob McCown Podcast in Toronto on Wednesday, visiting for almost an hour with the host and co-host John Shannon. He shared that they were a long way apart from an extension with J.T. Miller.
Calgary Hockey Now: Much has been made about whether or not the Calgary Flames can get newcomers Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar locked up long-term. Nobody is talking much about Cole Schwindt.
