I want to wish all fathers out there a Happy Father’s Day. I remember when I was young and just starting to play hockey, my dad packed up the net and my equipment and drove me to a local park. And for three hours or so he taught me how to play the game, on both sides of the puck. His commitment to me at an early age, although I became a goaltender, is something I will never forget and his love for hockey, his love for competition and his willingness to help me improve is something I will always remember. Because of sports, we have an incredible bond.

The Washington Capitals got some tough news, as Nicklas Backstrom underwent left hip resurfacing surgery on Friday. Per the team, he faces a “lengthy recovery process” and rehabilitation that he will begin immediately. However, given the procedure, some are wondering if No. 19 will be able to continue his career. The Colorado Avalanche had a 2-0 lead and a 3-1 lead in Game 1 over the Tampa Bay Lightning. They won the game in overtime thanks to an Andre Burakovsky one-timer 1:23 seconds in. On Saturday, the Avalanche got the lead and then maintained it for 60 minutes. After going up 3-0 in the first, they never looked back and won 7-0. (Colorado Hockey Now)
