New York Islanders

After a lackluster defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, the New York Islanders (35-33-10) host the Carolina Hurricanes (51-20-8) on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is slated for 1 PM ET at UBS Arena.

The Carolina Hurricanes are also on their second of a back-to-back, as they defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.

The New York Islanders did not hold a morning skate or media availability Sunday morning.

Following the 5-3 loss to Buffalo, head coach Barry Trotz said forward Anthony Beauvillier (upper body) will not be available, along with forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau (COVID-19).

Both will miss their third straight contest.

With Ilya Sorokin getting the start on Saturday, Semyon Varlamov will likely start against Carolina. 22-year-old Pyotr Kochetkov started for the Hurricanes Saturday and with Frederik Andersen hurt, it is likely that Antti Raanta faces New York.

ISLANDERS GAME NOTES

Today, the New York Islanders host the Carolina Hurricanes in the third and
final matchup between the two clubs this season.

The last time these teams met was just 16 days ago on April 8, when Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Kyle Palmieri each scored to help the Islanders to a 2-1 win in Raleigh.

Today’s matchup is the back-end of a back-to-back series for both teams, as the
Islanders visited the Sabres yesterday and the Hurricanes earned an overtime
win against the Devils.

The Islanders enter today’s game with a 4-2-0 record against Metropolitan Division opponents this month.

Today’s game is the Islanders’ 12th and final matinee game of the season.
