RALEIGH, NC–– The New York Islanders (3-4-0) are back in action on Friday, as they face the Carolina Hurricanes (4-1-1) fresh off a 3-0 shutout win over their rival New York Rangers. Puck drop is slated for 7 PM ET at PNC Arena. This is the first of a back-to-back for both teams, as the Islanders host the Colorado Avalanche Saturday while the Hurricanes are in Philadelphia to play the Flyers.

When the puck drops, New York Islanders forward Josh Bailey will have played in his 1,000th NHL game. The 15-year veteran has played his entire NHL career with the New York Islanders and becomes just the third player in franchise history to surpass the 1,000 games played mark.

“Trying to approach it like any other day. Obviously, it means a lot to me, and [it would] make it all the more special with the victory here tonight,” Josh Bailey said following the morning skate.

The New York Islanders held an optional morning skate on Friday, and everyone was accounted for. Ilya Sorokin was in the starter’s crease and was the first netminder off the ice. He will make his second consecutive start, fresh off his first shutout of the season, a 41-save performance against the rival New York Rangers in a 3-0 win.

“Well, I thought our battle level was extremely high,” New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert said. “You know, we did a very good job of defending through the neutral zone. You know, both teams are very similar. Carolina’s fast, faster in the neutral zone, So we’ll have to do a good job there and carry that over.”

On Thursday, Kieffer Bellows was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers. With a roster spot cleared, the Islanders recalled defenseman Robin Salo.

For the Carolina Hurricanes, Frederik Andersen gets the start. He was the first goaltender off the ice at their morning skate.
