Due to an injury and a stay in COVID-19 protocol, the New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson has only played in 19 of the Islanders’ 28 games thus far this season. After missing the Islanders’ last three games, his return is rather crucial for the Islanders, who need a consistent goal-scoring threat to help get the offense going at a significantly higher rate.

Brock Nelson is my player to watch Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils.

“We all know the importance that Brock has for this team, how dynamic he is as a player and guy in our room,” Islanders captain Anders Lee said following practice on Tuesday. “Anytime you get someone like him back…it’s great.”

The Islanders have lacked scoring this season, and even though Nelson missed nine games, he led the Islanders in goals for a long while before Anders Lee caught up to tie him with 10.

Nelson has just one goal in his last five games but scored his previous time out against the Vegas Golden Knights while on the power play.

Nelson has three assists to go with the 10 goals for 13 points on the season. He has averaged 0.68 points per game.

Nelson has eight goals and eight assists in 37 career games against the New Jersey Devils (16 points).

Nelson scored the New York Islanders first ever goal at UBS Arena on Nov. 20 against the Calgary Flames.

At home this season, Nelson has three goals in five games.
