The New York Islanders are back in action Thursday night as they face the Boston Bruins at UBS Arena. In the Islanders 6-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, effort was an issue and certain things need to happen from now until the end of the season. On Wednesday afternoon, I hosted my first Twitter space and appreciated all the people who tuned it. Kyle Palmieri has had a rough first half but will be judged on how he plays in the second half. He’s following the same script as the Islander he happened to replace.

These stories and more in the latest Rosner’s Wrap.

What’s happened to the New York Islanders? Why are certain decisions by head coach Barry Trotz being made, and how do the New York Islanders make the most of the final 39 games? On Wednesday afternoon, I hosted my first ever Space on Twitter to connect with Islander fans and discuss these questions and more! (NYI Hockey Now)

It’s easy to look at certain players, look at their first-half numbers and make rash decisions on how to proceed. One player who has bared the brunt, and for good reason, is forward Kyle Palmieri. He’s just 30 games into a four-year deal but he’s been far from stellar. Interestingly enough, he’s following the same script Jordan Eberle did. Let me explain. (NYI Hockey Now)

The New York Islanders did not bring their best game last night against the Buffalo Sabres, in a “must-win” game. After watching what went down last night, here’s three things that need to be done. (NYI Hockey Now)

Don’t look now but Boston Bruins bruising forward Trent Frederic is playing some of the best hockey in his NHL career on a “heavy line” with Charlie Coyle and Craig Smith. The 24-year-old Frederic has teamed with Coyle and Smith to make a dynamic forward line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand out of the lineup, and they accounted for Boston’s only goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. (Boston Hockey Now)

The Pittsburgh Penguins lines weren’t exactly in a blender on Wednesday, but head coach Mike Sullivan was clear that his team needs more than the recent offensive output and sustained zone pressure. So, it appears Evan Rodrigues will return to center stage on Thursday night in Toronto. (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

As the March 21 trade deadline inches closer, Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux has mixed emotions. He is a Philadelphia Flyer, true and true. He loves the organization, loves the city, loves the fans’ passion. (Philly Hockey Now)

For Washington Capitals netminder Ilya Samsonov, there have been no nights off in February — and he’s been happy with that schedule. In wake of an injury to Vitek Vanecek, Samsonov has had to step up to the plate and take on more responsibility, while also assuming the role of the No. 1 with Pheonix Copley backing up. He has played in six straight games since the break, and with each shot against, he feels more and more sure of himself. (Washington Hockey Now)

The Montreal Canadiens were back at it Wednesday morning, trying to find some silver lining in this horrific season as they prepare to take on the St. Louis Blues Thursday at the Bell Centre. A lone press conference following this mornings’ skate by Brandon Gallagher gave great insight on plenty of Habs’ news. (Montreal Hockey Now)

If Wednesday was the final time the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes play this season well, hey, it was a pretty memorable way to end it. And if it was not the last time these two old divisional rivals meet up, we are in for a real treat. (Florida Hockey Now)

The Vegas Golden Knights (28-18-3- 59 points) have been shut out in back-to-back games. They have not scored a goal since last Tuesday or in 139 minutes and 46 seconds. The Colorado Avalanche (35-9-4- 74 points) spoiled the debut of Jack Eichel Wednesday night as they defeated the Golden Knights 2-0. The main storyline of this game was that of Eichel making his Golden Knights debut. (Vegas Hockey Now)

Jack who? Jack Eichel generated a ton of hype with his return to the NHL with the Vegas Golden Knights, but he made not a lickspittle bit of difference tonight for the cap-circumventing Knights as the Colorado Avalanche shut them out 2-0 at T-Mobile Arena. Eichel looked as rusty as a 1976 Dodge Dart, and Darcy Kuemper got the whitewash victory for Colorado. (Colorado Hockey Now)

irst ex-assistant coach Jay Woodcroft, and now former player Ryane Clowe – it seems like the recipe for success when it comes to earning a position in management is to come from the San Jose Sharks’ organization. (San Jose Hockey Now)

With just more than eleven minutes remaining in the third period of an American Hockey League game in Bakersfield, California, Vancouver Canucks prospect defenceman Jack Rathbone took a hit along the end boards behind his net from Colton Sceviour of the Condors and stayed down. Rathbone was eventually taken off by stretcher. (Vancouver Hockey Now)

With the net empty and the Calgary Flames up by a pair, Johnny Gaudreau hesitated for a second after Elias Lindholm sprung him with a flip pass. Lindholm had two goals on the night already and Gaudreau was looking to set him up for the hat-trick. He made a quick extra move to buy some time as a defender caught him, then he did the right thing and deposited the puck into the empty cage for the team’s sixth goal of the evening.
