Anders Lee Nominated for King Clancy Memorial Trophy
On Tuesday, the National Hockey League announced their 32 finalists for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community. Anders Lee has been nominated by the New York Islanders.
The @NHL has announced the 32 nominees for the 2021-22 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, presented “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

For Anders Lee, he is one of three current captains to be nominated. As a captain, there is always a certain level of leadership needed. Especially with the season the New York Islanders just had, Lee’s leadership has been put to the test often. And he’s passed with flying colors.

Lee was at the podium following losses, tough losses, which happened more often than not in 2021-22. He always said the right things, and you could tell that what he said, he meant.
Coming off a torn ACL during the 2020-21 season, Anders Lee showed his teammates the hard work and dedication it takes to get back. And not just return to the ice and skate, but get back to the level that this team needed.
Lee scored 28 goals in 76 games, which ranked second on the Islanders in goals, and with 18 assists, finished the season third on the team in points (46 points).
Off the ice, Lee continued to lead.
Since 2016, Anders Lee has partnered with the Jam Kancer in the Kan foundation, in which Kan Jam tournaments are played, as players and teams must donate to play.
All the money fundraised helps families pay off the big expenses such as treatment bills, as well as the smaller bills like tolls to and from the hospitals, parking, or wherever the money can go to take off some of the financial pressure cancer brings.
I spoke on the phone back in December with Jam Kancer in the Kan foundation founder Jamey Crimmins about Anders Lee.
“He’s one of the most humble people I know,” Crimmins said on Lee. “He doesn’t take his position lightly but knows while he’s in a position to be a professional hockey player, to be the captain of the Islanders, it means he has the ability to motivate people to help others.”
Congratulations to all 2021-22 King Clancy nominees.
