New York Islanders, Aatu Räty

Good morning and happy Monday! I know Mondays are tough but once you get through the workday, you can go home and watch New York Islanders prospects go head to head as Aatu Räty, Eetu Liukas, and Matias Rajaniemi and Finland face William Dufour and Team Canada at 6 PM ET.

Here are the stories to know for today:

NYI Hockey Now: It was a three-point performance for New York Islanders prospect Aatu Räty against Slovakia. Not only that, but he won 13 of 21 FOs and was strong in other areas. Read up on his performance in Finland’s 9-3 win.

NYI Hockey Now: With Jacob Trouba being named captain of the New York Rangers on Tuesday, let’s look back at how Anders Lee became captain of the New York Islanders. It was the offseason of 2018.

Montreal Hockey Now: Former Montreal Canadiens winger Mark Recchi is loving where the Canadiens are heading. Recchi has been watching what’s going on with the Canadiens since executive vice president of hockey operations Jeff Gorton and general manager Kent Hughes started running the hockey operations department and the hall of famer has been a big fan so far.

Florida Hockey Now: Over the past two seasons, the Florida Panthers have become one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and few players not on the Tampa Bay Lightning has played them as much as Marc Staal. As a member of the Detroit Red Wings, Staal shared a division with the Panthers the last two years and has played Florida 12 times during that span. Now Staal joins Florida.

Washington Hockey Now: The Washington Capitals kick off training camp in the next couple of weeks, and as of right now, Alex Ovechkin and Dmitry Orlov are on schedule to arrive back from Russia in time for the start of camp. Both Ovechkin and Orlov plan to return to the United States in the coming weeks, either at the end of August or in early September.

Detroit Hockey Now:  The Detroit Red Wings have benefitted from the addition of Steve Yzerman when it comes to recent drafts. Hitting on Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, and quite possibly Simon Edvinsson will accelerate Detroit even further out of the rebuild. Is Yzerman mimicking what he did with the Tampa Bay Lightning?

Vegas Hockey Now: The Vegas Golden Knights have re-signed two depth forwards on Friday. Henderson Silver Knights Jake Leschyshyn and Paul Cotter both inked three-year extensions with the team. The signings were announced by general manager Kelly McCrimmon.

San Jose Hockey Now: Kaapo Kahkonen, James Reimer, and Adin Hill all have credible claims for NHL playing time. The 25-year-old Kahkonen, just acquired at the Trade Deadline for Jake Middleton, appears to be the anointed one though: He’s expected to enter the season as the San Jose Sharks’ starter. So will James Reimer be traded or will Adin Hill, and where?

Calgary Hockey Now: A week ago, it was reported that MacKenzie Weegar had a genuine interest in signing a long-term deal with the Calgary Flames. But is that really what’s best for the Flames right now?
