Islanders Place Mike Reilly on IR; Recall Travis Mitchell
According to the team’s media site, the New York Islanders placed Mike Reilly on the Injured Reserve. The transaction comes after announcing Reilly is now out indefinitely. The team has moved the 31-year-old off the roster, creating an available place for another skater to fill.
According to the team’s media site, Travis Mitchell has been recalled from the Bridgeport Islanders. Â Mitchell, 24, signed as an undrafted free agent after captaining Cornell in his final collegiate season.
Mitchell has one goal and three points through eight AHL games this season. He’s known for being a defensively responsible player with shutdown qualities similar to those of recent recall Grant Hutton.Â
Alexander Romanov continues to be out for the short term, so it’s expected Mitchell will be the extra seventh defenseman until Romanov is ready.
Romanov rejoined the team skates but in a non-contact jersey so it’s safe to say he’s got some time before he returns. Adam Pelech will still miss at least the rest of the month, so the Islanders continue to churn through their defensive depth as deep as they can. intact injury,
Mitchell played multiple preseason games this past training camp, whereas a guy like Aidan Fulp didn’t even get into one game. It’s unlikely Mitchell will get into action, barring another injury announcement, but it’s a good experience for the young man to get, even if it’s additional practice reps with the NHL squad.
