UNIONDALE, N.Y. — The New York Islanders are 12 games into the season and Casey Cizikas might have the best candidate yet for the goal of the year.  It occurred during Thursday night’s matchup between the Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins at Nassau Coliseum.

It came on the first shot of the game when Casey Cizikas pulled off an impressive display of skill. The Islanders centerman was able to take the puck away from Pittsburgh’s John Marino in his own end and then drive to the net with the puck, and Marino all over Cizikas.

Casey Cizikas was able to move the puck from his forehand to his backhand and then back to his forehand to push the puck past Casey DeSmith. All of that occurred while Cizikas was falling down as well.

The goal gave the Islanders the 1-0 lead 5:39 into the first period. It was the first shot on goal for either team at that point in the game.

The goal was Cizikas’ third goal of the season and his second consecutive game scoring for the Islanders. Casey Cizikas had a goal on Monday night against the New York Rangers as well.

The impressive play also extended Cizikas’ point streak to three games.

The Islanders did give up the lead midway through the second period, but Jean-Gabriel Pageau was able to put the Islanders back in front before the end of the period with an impressive deflection goal of his own.
